04/07 AWB8230-1541GB Connection to power supplyConnection to power supplyThe DF51 frequency inverters can not be used in every networkconfiguration without limitations (network configurationaccording to IEC 364-3).i Caution!Use only <strong>com</strong>ponents (cables, FI switches, reactors, filtersand contactors) that match the frequency inverter’s ratedvalues. Otherwise there is a danger of fire.Network configurationNetworks with earthed centre point (TT/TN networks):• DF51 frequency inverters can be used without limitations in TTand TN networks. The ratings of the DF51 frequency invertersmust, however, be observed.Voltage balanceA voltage that deviates from its ideal form can cause uneven loadsin the three-phase AC network’s lines and therefore a voltageimbalance. With frequency inverters with a three-phase supply, this unbalancecauses an uneven loading of the mains rectifier’s diodes. This cancause the diodes to fail prematurely. The permissible mains voltage unbalance is F G 3%Total harmonic distortion (THD)Total harmonic distortion is a measure of the harmonic distortionsof the sinusoidal input quantities in the frequency inverter. It isgiven in percent of the total value.hIf many frequency inverters with a single-phase supply areconnected to the same supply network, they should bedistributed symmetrically over all three phases and theload placed on the <strong>com</strong>mon neutral connection (mainsr.m.s. current) must be taken into account. If necessary, the cross-section of the neutral pole must be increased, ifit conducts the total current of all single-phase devices.Networks with isolated centre point (IT networks):• The use of DF51 frequency inverters in IT networks is onlypermissible to a limited extent. In this case, a suitable device(isolation monitor) to monitor earth faults and isolate thefrequency inverter from the mains must be used.h Attention! With an earth fault in an IT system, the capacitors of thefrequency inverter which are switched to earth are subjectto a very high voltage and safe operation of the frequencyinverter is no longer guaranteed. The situation can beremedied with an additional isolating transformer with anearthed centre point on its secondary, which is then usedto supply the input of the frequency inverter. Thisconstitutes an individual TN system for the frequencyinverter.Mains voltage, mains frequencyThe ratings of the DF51 frequency inverters cover European andAmerican standard voltages:• 230 V, 50 Hz (EU) and 240 V, 60 Hz (USA) for DF51-320 andDF51-322• 400 V, 50 Hz (EU) and 460 V, 60 Hz (USA) for DF51-340The permissible mains voltage range is:• 230/240 V: 180 V – 0 % to 264 V + 0 %• 380/460 V: 342 V – 0 % to 528 V + 0 %The permissible frequency range is 47 Hz – 0 % to 63 Hz + 0 %.The motor rating to mains voltage assignments are listed in theappendix, section “Special technical data”, page 193.K =2 2 2U 2+ U 3+ U 42 2 2 2U 1+ U 2+ U 3+ U 4---------------------------------------------------------------------------- + … + U n×2100%+ … + U nU 1 = fundamental <strong>com</strong>ponentTHD k = 0.1 l K = 10 % ~ –20 dB (THD suppression)U + + … + U nTHD = ------------------------------------------------------------------2 2U 2+ 3THD (Total Harmonic Distortion)2U 4U 1Interaction with p.f. correction systemsThe DF51 frequency inverters absorb only a small fundamentalreactive power from the AC supply. Compensation is thereforeunnecessary.h Attention!Operate DF51 series frequency inverters on mains withp.f. correction equipment only when this equipment isdamped with reactors.Fuses and cable cross-sectionsThe fuse ratings and cable cross-sections required for the networkconnection depend on the rating of the frequency inverter and thedrive’s operating mode.h Caution! When selecting the cable cross-section, take the voltagedrop under load conditions into account. Compliance tofurther standards (for example VDE 0113, VDE 0289) isthe responsibility of the user.2219
