04/07 AWB8230-1541GB Electrical connectionhObserve the electrical connection data (rating data) onthe motor’s rating label (nameplate).i Caution! If motors are used whose insulation is not suitable foroperation with frequency inverters, the motor may bedestroyed. If you use a motor reactor or a sine-wave filter here, the rate ofvoltage rise can be limited to values of approx. 500 V/ms(DIN VDE 0530, IEC 2566).By default, the DF51 frequency inverters have a clockwise rotationfield. Clockwise rotation of the motor shaft is achieved byconnecting the motor and frequency inverter terminals as follows:MotorU1V1W1DF51UVWPole-changing three-phase motors (Dahlander pole-changingmotors), rotor-fed three-phase <strong>com</strong>mutator shunt motors (slipringrotor) or reluctance motors, synchronous motors and servo motorscan be connected, provided they are approved for use withfrequency inverters by the motor manufacturer.i Caution! The operation of a motor at speeds higher than the ratedspeed (see nameplate) can cause mechanical damage tothe motor (bearings, unbalance) and the machinery towhich it is connected and can lead to dangerousoperating conditions!h Attention!Uninterrupted operation in the lower frequency range(less than about 25 Hz) can lead to thermal damage(overheating) of self-ventilated motors. Possible remediesinclude over-dimensioning and external coolingindependent of motor speed.Observe the manufacturers re<strong>com</strong>mendations foroperation of the motor.Figure 41:To determine direction of rotation, view from here.In frequency inverter operation with the DF51, you can reverse thedirection of rotation of the motor shaft by:• actuating terminal 1 (FWD = clockwise rotating field) or 2(REV = anticlockwise rotating field (default).• applying a control signal through the interface or fieldbusinterface connection.• exchanging two of the phases connected to the motor.U1 V1 W1U1 V1 W1W2 U2 V2FWDW2 U2 V2REVFigure 42:Reversing the direction of rotationThe speed of a three-phase motor is determined by the number ofpole pairs and the frequency. The output frequency of the DF51frequency inverter is indefinitely variable from 0to 400Hz.41
