Universal current sensitive RCCBsaccording to EN 50178 <strong>and</strong> IEC 755.LogoModelIdentification on the residual-current circuit-breakersAlternatingcurrent sensitive(RCCB, Type AC)Pulse currentsensitive(RCCB, Type A)Universal currentsensitive(RCCB, Type B)The frequency inverter has a built-in mains rectifier. When a framefault occurs, a DC fault current can block the trip of the alternatingcurrent sensitive or pulse current sensitive residual-current circuitbreaker, thereby preventing its protective function. We thereforere<strong>com</strong>mend the use of:• all-current sensitive RCCBs with a rated fault currentf 300 mA.The approximate fault current values of the <strong>DF6</strong> frequencyinverters <strong>and</strong> their assigned radio interference filters are listed inthe appendix, section “RFI filter”, page 166.Spurious tripping of a residual-current circuit breaker can becaused by the following:• capacitive <strong>com</strong>pensation currents in the cable screens, particularly with long, screened motor cables,• simultaneous connection of multiple frequency inverters to themains supply,• the use of additional chokes <strong>and</strong> filters(radio interference filters, line filters).Mains contactorThe mains contactor is connected to the mains side input cablesL1, L2, L3 <strong>and</strong> allows the <strong>DF6</strong> frequency inverter on the supplyingnetwork to be switched on <strong>and</strong> off during operation <strong>and</strong> to bedisconnected in the event of a fault.Mains contactors <strong>and</strong> their assignment to the <strong>DF6</strong> frequencyinverters are listed in the appendix, section “Mains contactors”,page 165.Current peaksIn the following cases, a relatively high peak current can occur onthe primary side of the frequency inverter (i.e. on the supplyvoltage side), which, under certain conditions, can destroy theinput rectifier of the frequency inverter:• Imbalance of the voltage supply greater than 3 %.• The maximum power output of the point of supply must be atleast 10 times greater than the maximum frequency inverterrating.• If sudden voltage dips in the supply voltage are to be expected, for example when:– a number of frequency inverters are operated on a <strong>com</strong>monsupply voltage– a thyristor system <strong>and</strong> a frequency inverter are operated on a<strong>com</strong>mon supply voltage– power factor correction devices are switched on or offIn these cases, a mains choke with about 3 % voltage drop atrated operation should be installed.Caution!Residual-current circuit breakers must be installed only onthe primary side between the in<strong>com</strong>ing supply <strong>and</strong> thefrequency inverter.Warning! To prevent the risk of fire, use only cables, residualcurrentcircuit breakers <strong>and</strong> contactors with a suitablerating.16
