The length of the motor cable <strong>and</strong> the associated use offurther <strong>com</strong>ponents has an influence on the motor control mode<strong>and</strong> the performance characteristics. In parallel operation (multiplemotors connected to the frequency inverter output), the resultingcable lengths l res must be calculated:l res = Sl M x Wn MSl M :n M :hSum of all motor cable lengthsNumber of motor circuitsWith long motor cables, the leakage currents caused byparasitic cable capacities can cause the “earth fault”message. In this case, motor filters must be used.Keep the motor cables as short as possible as it will positivelyinfluence the drive’s characteristics.Bypass operationIf you want to have the option of operating the motor with thefrequency inverter or directly from the mains supply, the in<strong>com</strong>ingsupplies must be mechanically interlocked:Caution!A changeover between the frequency inverter <strong>and</strong> themains supply must take place in a voltage-free state.Warning!The frequency inverter outputs (U, V, W) must not beconnected to the mains voltage (destruction of the device,risk of fire).Q1L1 L2 L3Motor choke, du/dt filters, sinusoidal filtersMotor chokes <strong>com</strong>pensate for capacitive currents with long motorcables <strong>and</strong> with grouped drives (multiple connection of paralleldrives to a single inverter).The use of motor chokes is re<strong>com</strong>mended (observe themanufacturers instructions):• for grouped drives• for the operation of three-phase current asynchronous motorswith maximum frequencies greater than 200 Hz,• for the operation of reluctance motors or permanently excitedsynchronous motors with maximum frequencies above 120 Hz.K1MG1S1I> I> I>L1 L2 L3U V Wdu/dt filters are used for limiting the rate of voltage rise at themotor terminals to values below 500 V/ms. They should be appliedfor all motors with unknown or insufficient insulation withst<strong>and</strong>voltage.M1M3hCaution!During the engineering phase, keep in mind that thevoltage drop across motor filters <strong>and</strong> du/dt filters can beup to 4 % of the frequency inverter’s output voltage.When sinusoidal filters are used, the motor supply voltage <strong>and</strong>current are almost sinusoidal.Figure 32:Bypass motor controlCaution!During the engineering phase, keep in mind that thesinusoidal filter must be matched to the output voltage<strong>and</strong> to the frequency inverter’s pulse frequency.The voltage drop on the sinusoidal filter can be up to15 % of the frequency inverter’s output voltage.37
