<strong>Engineering</strong>01/02 AWB8230-1413GBEMC requirementsThe limit values for emitted interference <strong>and</strong> immunity for variablespeed drives are described in the IEC/EN 61800-3 ProductSt<strong>and</strong>ard.If you use <strong>DF6</strong> frequency inverters in European Union (EU)countries, you must observe the EMC Directive 89/336/EEC.The following conditions must be observed to <strong>com</strong>ply with thisDirective:Supply voltage (mains voltage) for the frequency inverter:• Voltage fluctuation g10 % or less• Voltage imbalance g3 % or less• <strong>Frequency</strong> variation g4 % or lessIf one of the conditions listed here cannot be fulfilled, you mustinstall an appropriate mains choke (a section “Mains choke”,page 165).EMC interference classInstalled according to the “EMC guidelines“ in section“Installation” on page 21 <strong>and</strong> with the use of a radio interferencefilter, the <strong>DF6</strong> frequency inverters conform to the followingst<strong>and</strong>ards:• Emitted interference:IEC/EN 61800-3 (EN 55011 group 1, class B)• Noise immunity:IEC/EN 61800-3, industrial environmentWith frequency inverters, performance related <strong>and</strong> emittedinterference increases with the pulse frequency. The frequency atwhich performance-related interference occurs also increases withlonger motor cables. When the assigned radio interference filter isused, the EN 618003 st<strong>and</strong>ard is <strong>com</strong>plied to as follows:Noise immunityUsed with the assigned radio interference filters, the <strong>DF6</strong>frequency inverters meet the interference immunity requirementsof the EMC Product St<strong>and</strong>ard IEC/EN 61800-3 for industrialenvironments (second environment) <strong>and</strong> for domestic use(first environment).A “domestic environment” is defined here as a connection point(transformer feeder) to which domestic households are alsoconnected. For industrial systems, the EMC Directive requires electromagnetic<strong>com</strong>patibility with the environment as a whole. The ProductSt<strong>and</strong>ard regards a typical drive system as a <strong>com</strong>plete unit, i.e. the<strong>com</strong>bination of frequency inverter, cables <strong>and</strong> motor.Emitted interference <strong>and</strong> radio interference suppressionUsed with the assigned radio interference filters, the <strong>DF6</strong>frequency inverters meet the requirements of the EMC ProductSt<strong>and</strong>ard IEC/EN 61800-3 for domestic use (first environment) <strong>and</strong>therefore also for the higher limit values of industrial environments(second environment). To ensure <strong>com</strong>pliance to the limit values, observe the followingpoints:• Reduction of performance related interference with line filters<strong>and</strong>/or radio interference filters including mains chokes• Reduction of the electromagnetic emission interference byscreening motor cables <strong>and</strong> signal cables• Compliance with installation requirements(EMC-<strong>com</strong>pliant installation).AvailabilityGeneralLimitedFirst environment(public mainsnetwork)Secondenvironment(industrial)Up to 10 m motor cablelength at 12 kHz(maximum pulsefrequency)Up to 20 m motor cablelengths at a pulsefrequency of up to 5 kHzUp to 50 mUp to 50 m 1)Up to 50 m1) This is a product with limited availability as defined by IEC/EN 618003. This product can cause radio-frequency interference indomestic environments. In this case appropriate protectionmeasures must be implemented by the user.18
