The AnnualDOD Anti-Criminality Conference held on 8 October 2010was aimed at providing orientation-training to representativesof Services and Divisions in support of the Nodal Point onAnti-Criminality. Members were trained to conduct crimerisk surveys in order to determine the extent to which physicalsecurity measures were lacking and/or adequate at units inthe DOD.In order to strengthen the management of Anti-Criminality,policies will have to be aligned with the Strategy on Anti-Criminality and DOD members will have to undergo formaltraining on managing crime. To this end, the ProvostMarshall General has been tasked to formalize the DODAnti-Criminality Policy by no later than the end of June2012. The DOD Nodal Point on Anti-Criminality hasengaged Defence Intelligence on the design of a training programwhich will be specifically aimed at managing crime inthe DOD.The DOD Nodal Point on Anti-Criminality also activelyinteracted with SITA for the design of an overarching CrimeInformation System that integrates all the existing fragmentedinformation data already available in other DOD systems. The aim of this system is to verify the integrity of informationfrom the existing systems and to make business intelligenceavailable to commanders and managers at all levels. This overarching integrated data system is in an advancedstage of development. The management of crime requirement has been included inthe performance agreements and management directives ofall commanders and managers. In addition, Anti-Criminalityhas been incorporated as a standing agenda point in the commandand management forums of the DOD. This serves as aconstant reminder and raises awareness of crime in the driveto implement the Anti-Criminality Strategy. The DODSafeguarding Board meets monthly and is attended by theServices and Divisions. The commitment of commandersand managers to the management of crime was demonstratedby their personal signature on all safeguarding or anti-criminalityreports and compliance plans. The DOD vehicle fleet is safeguarded through the use of nonremovablestickers on D-vehicles in order to make them easilyidentifiable. Some vehicles have also been fitted withsatellite tracking systems, which are monitored by DefenceIntelligence or the respective Service/Division.Anti-Criminality in the DOD is well on its way to achievingthe goals of the Strategy on Anti-Criminality. All membersof the DOD will be part of the fight against crime.136ANNUAL REPORT FY 2010/2011
