This was a naval exercise, executedin Australia, between various countries.The purpose <strong>of</strong> this exercise was <strong>to</strong> exercise thenecessary procedures for the guiding <strong>of</strong> ships inthe Pacific Ocean. It was attended by twoSANDF staff <strong>of</strong>ficers and no SANDF mainequipment was utilisedExercise FAIRWAY BUOY was scheduled <strong>to</strong> beexecuted in June 2010 on verbal request from theNamibian <strong>Defence</strong> Force was postponed <strong>to</strong>August 2010. The Namibian <strong>Defence</strong> Force wasresponsible for the planning and arrangementthere<strong>of</strong>. This naval exercise was executed inNamibia over the period 02 August 2010 <strong>to</strong> 18August 2010. The main purpose was <strong>to</strong> ensureco-operation with countries sharing the sameoceans in order <strong>to</strong> provide for safer Sea Lines <strong>of</strong>Communication. The relevant navies <strong>of</strong> theSouthern African Development Community participatedin a Command Post Exercise (CPX)with the purpose <strong>to</strong> exercise the necessary proceduresfor guiding <strong>of</strong> ships in the Indian andAtlantic Oceans. It was attended by nine SANDFmembers and no SANDF main equipment wasutilisedExercise ATLASUR was an exercise between thenavies <strong>of</strong> SA, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.A Senior Staff Officer from the Joint OperationsDivision attended the final planning conferencein Argentina over the period 28 June 2010 <strong>to</strong> 02July 2010. The exercise was executed over theperiod 27 Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 2010 <strong>to</strong> 10 November 2010.The SANDF contingent deployed consisted <strong>of</strong>the SAS DRAKENSBERG, the SAS CHAR-LOTTE MAXEKE, 1 x Operational Diving Team,1 x Maritime Reaction Section, 1 x Oryx helicopterwith its support team, 1 x Submarine Logisticsupport team, 1 x Submarine OperatingAuthority team and a medical teamANNUAL REPORT FY 2010/2011 59
