Theseevents included the budget vote <strong>of</strong> the Minister, the DOD support<strong>to</strong> the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the launch <strong>of</strong> the<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Military Veterans and the SANDF taking-over<strong>of</strong> the border safeguarding responsibility from the SouthAfrican Police Service (SAPS). Coverage <strong>of</strong> major multinationalexercises such as Exercise IBSAMAR between thenavies <strong>of</strong> India, Brazil and South Africa and Exercise ATLA-SUR between Argentina, South Africa and Uruguay furtherpromoted the image <strong>of</strong> the DOD.Other major activities that also significantly promoted theimage <strong>of</strong> the DOD were the SANDF support <strong>to</strong> hospitals duringthe public service strike, the DOD participation in theAfrican Aerospace and <strong>Defence</strong> Exhibition (AAD), the AirForce Day, the Naval Festival, Exercise YOUNG EAGLE,the National Youth Service Pass-out Parade and the MOD &MV's address <strong>to</strong> the MSDS intake in January 2011.DCC has established a good working relationship with theSABC and is able <strong>to</strong> secure free airtime during SABC 2Morning Live programmes <strong>to</strong> conduct live broadcasts <strong>of</strong>major events. Mutually beneficial working relationships werealso established with E TV and with print media houses. Thishas provided the DOD with the opportunity <strong>to</strong> increase publicawareness <strong>of</strong> DOD support <strong>to</strong> government priorities.During the period under review, <strong>Defence</strong> TV won an internationalfilm award in Italy, the third such award since 2001. Inthe Institutional Information Category the <strong>Defence</strong> TV entry:"Cheetah Farewell" won the first prize and received the covetedChief <strong>of</strong> Staff <strong>of</strong> the Italian <strong>Defence</strong> Force Award.The Corporate Communication Restructuring Task Team(CCRTT) continued with a range <strong>of</strong> investigations that willcontribute <strong>to</strong> the establishment <strong>of</strong> a pr<strong>of</strong>essional corporatecommunication service. Smaller task teams have been established<strong>to</strong> conduct the respective investigations. Some <strong>of</strong> thetask teams have commenced with their work and will continueuntil the end <strong>of</strong> the FY2010/11. The location <strong>of</strong> the Head<strong>of</strong> Communication is still <strong>to</strong> be approved by the Minister.O b j e c t i v e s a n d M e a s u r e sThe Communication Services Subprogramme providesdefence communication policy, strategy and plans in accordancewith DOD policy and national (GovernmentCommunication and Information System - GCIS) policy, andprovides a centralized corporate communication capability,services and products in order <strong>to</strong> enable effective, efficient,two-way communication between the DOD and itspublics/stakeholders.O u t p u t sTable 4.11 below provides details <strong>of</strong> the report on theCommunication Services (Corporate Communication)Subprogramme outputs, performance Indica<strong>to</strong>rs and targetsas specified in the DOD Strategic Plan FY2010/11.44ANNUAL REPORT FY 2010/2011
