D E P A R T M E N T O F D E F E N C ESOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL DEFENCE FORCE FUNDANNUAL REPORTfor the year ended 31 March 2011cial distress arising, directly or indirectly, as a result <strong>of</strong> any service or duties in terms <strong>of</strong> the new <strong>Defence</strong> Act 2002, (Act No. 42<strong>of</strong> 2002) performed by such members, and <strong>to</strong> provide facilities <strong>to</strong> or for such members and former members who perform suchservices or duties.S t a t e m e n t o f r e s p o n s i b i l i t yThe Board members are responsible for moni<strong>to</strong>ring the preparation <strong>of</strong> and the integrity <strong>of</strong> the financial statements and relatedinformation included in this Annual Report.The Audi<strong>to</strong>r-General South Africa is responsible for auditing and reporting on the financial statements.The financial statements are prepared in accordance with statements <strong>of</strong> South African Generally Recognised Accounting Practice(GRAP) and incorporate disclosure in line with the accounting philosophy <strong>of</strong> the entity. The financial statements are based onappropriate accounting policies consistently applied and supported by reasonable and prudent judgements and estimates.The Board members believe that the entity will be a going concern in the year ahead. For this reason they continue <strong>to</strong> adopt thegoing concern basis in preparing the entity's annual financial statements.P E R F O R M A N C ES t r a t e g i c o b j e c t i v e sA Strategic Plan for the Fund has been prepared and submitted <strong>to</strong> the Interim Board for consideration. Once the appointment <strong>of</strong>the members <strong>of</strong> the Board has been confirmed and the Fund resumes its activities, the plan will be formally approved and thestrategic objectives therein pursued.The objective <strong>of</strong> the Board is, with due regard <strong>to</strong> the financial position <strong>of</strong> the Fund and the requirements <strong>of</strong> each case, <strong>to</strong> rendersuch aid as the Board may deem fair and reasonable <strong>to</strong> members and former members <strong>of</strong> the South African National <strong>Defence</strong>Force and Auxiliary Services established in accordance with the <strong>Defence</strong> Act, and their dependants who suffer hardship or financialdistress arising, directly or indirectly, as a result <strong>of</strong> any service or duties in terms <strong>of</strong> the new <strong>Defence</strong> Act 2002, (Act No. 42<strong>of</strong> 2002), performed by such members, and <strong>to</strong> provide facilities <strong>to</strong> or for such members and former members who perform suchservices or duties.KeyobjectiveStrategyPerformanceIndica<strong>to</strong>rQuarterlytargetsActualperformanceMembersProvide aid <strong>to</strong>qualifying membersand dependants..To enable military social workersand veterans' organisations<strong>to</strong> identify and process the needand applications for aid.No <strong>of</strong> personsaided.30 Jun 20103 personsR0.00The Fund was not operationaldue <strong>to</strong> the following reasons:Board members were no<strong>to</strong>fficially appointed and thuslacked an <strong>of</strong>ficial mandate.
