D E P A R T M E N T O F D E F E N C EOperational Support and Intelligence Capabilityprepares, develops, provides and supports protectionsupport, intelligence systems and counter-intelligencesupport to the South African Air Force (SAAF) throughprotection squadrons, intelligence subsystems and AirForce-unique intelligence training. In principle, fundingis distributed according to the number and size ofsquadrons, systems and equipment operating and maintenancerequirements, and training courses.Command and Control Capability supplies and maintainsoperationally ready command and control elementsin support of air battle space operations. In principle,funding is distributed according to the number andsize of units, systems and equipment operating andmaintenance requirements, and of force preparation andtraining courses.Base Support provides air base infrastructure facilitiesto squadrons and resident units on bases, includingmaintenance of all relevant systems and personnel, tosupport flying operations. In principle, funding is distributedaccording to the number and size of Air Forcebases and units, systems and equipment operating andmaintenance requirements, and the number of trainingcourses.Command Post renders command and control over allmissions flown. In principle funding is distributedaccording to the number and size of command posts anddeployments, and readiness and aircraft charteringrequirements.Training Capability provides for the general education,training and development of SAAF personnel. Fundingis distributed according to the number and size of units,systems and equipment operations and maintenancerequirements, and the number of force preparation exercisesand training courses.Technical Support Services establishes, maintains andprepares optimized technical and tactical logistic supportcapabilities to provide support to system groupsand manage air service units.
