D E P A R T M E N T O F D E F E N C EOperational Support and Intelligence Capabilityprepares, develops, provides and supports protectionsupport, intelligence systems and counter-intelligencesupport <strong>to</strong> the South African Air Force (SAAF) throughprotection squadrons, intelligence subsystems and AirForce-unique intelligence training. In principle, fundingis distributed according <strong>to</strong> the number and size <strong>of</strong>squadrons, systems and equipment operating and maintenancerequirements, and training courses.Command and Control Capability supplies and maintainsoperationally ready command and control elementsin support <strong>of</strong> air battle space operations. In principle,funding is distributed according <strong>to</strong> the number andsize <strong>of</strong> units, systems and equipment operating andmaintenance requirements, and <strong>of</strong> force preparation andtraining courses.Base Support provides air base infrastructure facilities<strong>to</strong> squadrons and resident units on bases, includingmaintenance <strong>of</strong> all relevant systems and personnel, <strong>to</strong>support flying operations. In principle, funding is distributedaccording <strong>to</strong> the number and size <strong>of</strong> Air Forcebases and units, systems and equipment operating andmaintenance requirements, and the number <strong>of</strong> trainingcourses.Command Post renders command and control over allmissions flown. In principle funding is distributedaccording <strong>to</strong> the number and size <strong>of</strong> command posts anddeployments, and readiness and aircraft charteringrequirements.Training Capability provides for the general education,training and development <strong>of</strong> SAAF personnel. Fundingis distributed according <strong>to</strong> the number and size <strong>of</strong> units,systems and equipment operations and maintenancerequirements, and the number <strong>of</strong> force preparation exercisesand training courses.Technical Support Services establishes, maintains andprepares optimized technical and tactical logistic supportcapabilities <strong>to</strong> provide support <strong>to</strong> system groupsand manage air service units.
