Hilda's government of those who placed themselves<br />

to be slain. The body of Oswin was buried at Tynemouth,<br />

where a chapel had already been erected, and<br />

where a monastery was not long afterwards founded.<br />

He was afterwards canonised as St. Oswin.<br />

Oswy, like his brothers, had received his religious<br />

training in the monastery of lona. The Scotic<br />

ecclesiastics who had been his teachers held views as<br />

regarded certain matters of discipline which were<br />

vehemently opposed by those whose Christianity was
