RICHARD ALLEN SCOTT THROUGH THE YEARS At yet another parade, Dale Pinchin and I had the honours of leading this one through Hope. Behind us is the ‘hot’ Plymouth highway patrol car with the radar head hanging from the rear window. Unfortunately, I was not to stay there long. In an interview at Hope with a Staffing Officer from Vancouver, in November, it was suggested that I accept a transfer…in fact it was suggested that I accept all transfers henceforth, for the benefit of my Brigade Days - Hope, B.C. – Sep 12, 1970 career. I had been selected to go to Headquarters Ottawa for a rotation within Records Management because of my ‘administrative capabilities’. So I packed my little car with all my earthly possessions and prepared for a hard winter drive through the mountains and across the country. At that time, a single member could still only ship one steamer trunk at public expense. My car was so full that I had to push the stuff in the driver’s seat with my elbow to be able to properly work the stick shift. June 2017 105
RICHARD ALLEN SCOTT THROUGH THE YEARS While living in B.C., I visited Regina friends of my parents, Willy and Wilma Young, who now lived in West Vancouver, in a beauty of house hanging on the side of the mountain overlooking the water. He was an ophthalmologist and doing very well. He owned this sailing boat which was moored at the Eagle Harbour Yacht Club. On several occasions, he would take me out for a day or an overnight with his wife and daughter and we’d sail around Howe Sound. My sailing skills from my Boy Scout days actually paid off.
