RICHARD ALLEN SCOTT THROUGH THE YEARS 1961 In the Spring of 1961 I made my first effort at organized sports – softball, playing in the purple and yellow uniform of the Cosmos (same colours as my future High School). I was atrocious and got relegated to right field where I could do the least damage. I seem to recall that the coaches would yell “you’re not playing cricket”. Don’t remember getting a hit, and definitely not a home run. Pretty sad. This was the year I started using hair ‘products’ (known as ‘grease’ to the boys). It gets worse. RICHARD ALLEN SCOTT THROUGH THE YEARS I remember our ‘graduation lunch’ in that we each brought sandwiches and ‘goodies’ to school one day and ate in the classroom! The ceremony was on another day, with parents and siblings able to attend. Grade 8 Graduation – Jun 9, 1961 Christine was a guest My second attempt at formal sports was tennis lessons with my sister in the summer of 1961 at a club on the grounds of the Legislative Buildings. I continued to play tennis off and on into my early 30’s. Our summer holiday in 1961 was to a rented cabin at Kenosee Lake in Moose Mountain Provincial Park, southeast of Regina. We did it again in 1962. A skunk got under our cabin one night and ruined the rest of the holiday, having ‘let loose’ with its stink. We all smelled like skunk as did all our belongings. How embarrassing. And this is how strongly I felt about it! Count the ribs. June 2017 66
