RICHARD ALLEN SCOTT
THROUGH THE YEARS
I believe it was in
1963 that I started
music lessons on the
guitar. I took lessons
in a basement studio
of a music store in
downtown Regina. I
think it was on this
street. I know there
was a record store
and men’s clothing
store along here that
Bill and I frequented
quite often.
My parents bought
me an impressive
hand-made Spanish guitar (from
my music teacher), with nylon
strings. My lessons were
classical music. I quit my
lessons about the time I was
mastering a very difficult
classical piece (I forget the
name of it). Also at that time I
was starting to skip my paid
lessons…which Mum and Dad
never knew about! I did,
however, perform once at a
talent showcase sponsored by
the music school at the
auditorium of the Natural History
Museum.

Instead of music lessons, Bill Daniels and I would go to a kind-of-rough basement pool hall (also
on this street I think), which became a regular occurrence for us after school, and which was
about 6 or 7 blocks straight down the street. We also hung out at one of the cafes seen in this
photo, enjoying a plate of French fries with ‘friends’. It was a long walk home.
The tall office tower in the picture is the Saskatchewan Power Corporation (SPC) where I
worked for about a month in 1967 in the accounting department. My boss was my former music
teacher!
