THROUGH THE YEARS
Phil and Jean would celebrate their 35 th
anniversary in Toronto this year, so Aunt Pam and
Len, plus Tracey and Paul (now ex), came to us
from England for a visit before we drove to
Toronto for the celebration.
In November, with 21 years of service, I was promoted to
Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt), and upset another few individuals
who grieved my promotion (they lost). In those days, you
didn’t apply for vacant positions, you were selected, based
upon all manner of criteria. Unfortunately, I had to transfer
to another Section within Informatics (Client Services) to
secure that rank. My role consisted of planning and
coordinating the acquisition and relocations of all computer
devices across Canada connected to the RCMP network.
Didn’t like that job at all, especially not after what I had
been doing for 4 years. But beggars can’t be choosers, and
it was my intention to
climb as many rungs of
the ladder as possible.
Sharon had a job at the local bakery (Sweet Sisters), so we
often had home-made bread on the table.
