THROUGH THE YEARS
A number of my identification papers and extra credit cards were in that suitcase…which we
later tracked and found that the thief travelled north from Cache Creek…the credit card
purchases showed us that. We were insured, so it was only a massive inconvenience…and
cold…until I could get some more clothes.
We stopped for an overnight in Brooks, Alberta, and met Mum and Dad who had driven down
from Edmonton. This would be the last time Sharon and the kids would see Dad.
We didn’t venture far off the Trans-Canada Highway, but the kids certainly got a good look at
the country as we made it East. My saddest part was leaving B.C.
The kids weren’t confined to any kind of booster seats or seat belts, so had the run of the back
of the wagon, could lay down and nap, and amuse themselves all together. Much better way to
travel than we’re restricted to nowadays. Didn’t have air conditioning in the wagon either, but a
good breeze! And the kids learned a lot about Canada…we stopped often…and did not have
those insufferable ‘devices’ that are so prevalent today…where a kid has no idea where he/she
is going or where they’ve been…never looking out the window.
We stopped in Saskatchewan for a night to visit Sharon’s aunt and uncle…who was kind
enough to provide me with another pair of shorts, a shirt, and a jacket. We had been travelling
on a long weekend, so absolutely nothing was open. We stopped one night in Wawa, Ontario,
and after many hours of continuous loud noise, we asked for our money back and kept driving.
