not, we’d have another ‘gig’ and load up the trailer, all squeeze into Doug’s car (he was the only
one with a car) and head out to whatever little town had booked us for that night. I think we
made about 10 bucks apiece for those ‘appearances’. Sometimes a radio-station DJ would
accompany us at the dances as it would be aired in real time. We were fortunate not to have to
join the musician’s union, as others did.
The picture appearing
on our poster (and on
the previous page) was
taken at a live
performance at the
CKOS TV station in
Yorkton,
Saskatchewan. This
was one of the places
where we had to stay
overnight (all of us in
one room!). I
remember there were
some dicey moments in
our drives due to
unfavourable weather
conditions (like
whiteouts in the winter).
Some real nail-biters.
It was for the Yorkton
trip that I had to ‘run
away’ from home as I
had been grounded (I
think because I wasn’t
doing so well in school
– plus my attitude) by
Mum and Dad. I sure
caught hell when I
returned, but don’t
remember the
consequences. They
couldn’t have been too
bad.
As our popularity grew, my school work suffered and declined proportionately. I was having the
time of my life!
