THROUGH THE YEARS
I was officially on ‘sick leave’ upon my arrival in Ottawa, and awaiting a scheduled surgery date.
Finally went to work around mid-September, commuting by bus (in uniform) to a downtown
office block, whose prime tenants were the military, at 222 Nepean Street. We maintained our
offices there for about another year before moving to HQ.
My responsibilities as the OIC IFSB were to provide leadership, guidance and advice to RCMP
Divisional Informatics Officers concerning strategic delivery of the corporate Informatics
program within their jurisdictions. Some of my other duties included:
Responsibility for planning, budgeting, and management of computer hardware and software
research projects, including requirements gathering, for potential national implementation in the
operational policing environment, and establishing models, processes and procedures for the
development and implementation of delivery solutions.
I managed the creation, presentation, and maintenance of
Memoranda of Understanding between the RCMP and
numerous law enforcement agencies across Canada with
respect to their utilization of an RCMP operational reporting
system.
I was an Executive Committee member of the RCMP’s national
Information Technology program, an inter-disciplinary team
with shared responsibility for the program’s multi-million dollar
capital and operations/maintenance budgets.
I composed and nationally distributed a monthly newsletter.

Going into his second year at RMC, Tim switched from
Army to Navy. Here he is in his summer whites.
Chris and Robyne reluctantly proceeded to Grade 12 at
Carine Wilson, a
nearby school, and
were again deeply
involved in sports,
Robyne with
volleyball, and Chris
with football and
rugby.
I must admit that it
was not a good time
for a move given they had an additional year of school
(Grade 13), which has since been done away with.
