THROUGH THE YEARS
In June, Tim graduated into High School, and the twins into
Junior High. Throughout their school years to date, all three
of them attained honours, ribbons, awards, newspaper
coverage, you name it, for their academic and athletic
achievements. Far too many to be mentioned in this
document.
Grade 8 graduation - June, 1989
First day of school - Sep, 1989
On September 21 st with 22½ years of service, I was commissioned as an Inspector.
My dream had finally come true. Greatest day in my career for a long time. Wish Dad
had been around to see it. Of course, a transfer was involved. This time to “D”
Division Headquarters (Manitoba) as the Officer in Charge, Informatics Branch. The
Commanding Officer wanted me there almost immediately.
In October, I was assessed for French Language Training… which I had been
requesting for the past 15 years and been ignored. Talk about the left hand not knowing what
the right hand was doing. The timing was absolutely stupid.
We put our house on the market
immediately for $134,900. I was in
regular contact with the CO’s secretary
in Winnipeg to keep him updated on
the house-selling situation. He was
not impressed and strongly suggested
that I precede the family. In
preparation for that I shipped one of
our vehicles and a trunk full of my
clothing and uniforms. Finally, just
before I was due to leave, the house
sold…on Dec 22 nd – and for less than
$124,900. I’m sure the kids were
upset to leave – especially half way
through a school year, and leaving
their friends of many years.
