THROUGH THE YEARS
1988
Work progressed on the VICARS project, with me having responsibility for supervision of a
contracted programmer, reconfiguring and testing hardware modifications, data base form and
data cleansing, downloading into the workstation, and loading into the application. I also
developed a manual outlining the step-by-step approach to structuring the database.
It was recommended that I try again for the Commission process in early 1989.
I turned the magical 40 years of age in
February, and had a huge party in our house
with probably close to 30 or more people.
My 40th
In March, our old Dodge wagon was on its last legs, so we
sold it to a friend who was in dire need of ‘something,
anything’ and purchased a lovely Chevrolet Caprice Estate
wagon from my sister Christine and her husband Vance in
Sarnia, having taken the train to get there, another first for the
kids. This wagon had electric windows and air conditioning.
Figured I’d died and gone to heaven. First time ever with
those features.
This was also the year that a tornado came through
Winchester. Uprooted centuries old trees, one across the
street from our house, another the house behind us. Both
trees crashed through the roofs of those houses, but we,
funnily, were not affected one little bit. Our tent trailer was
even up in the back garden and wasn’t touched…so obviously
it just jumped right over our house. We were in the
basement…and I’ve no idea
where the twins were…they had
the run of the town by this time.
Very safe, never concerned.
