RICHARD ALLEN SCOTT THROUGH THE YEARS I played regularly with friends in Hilly Fields Park, where there was a stream at which I spent hours making dams and looking for pollywogs (tadpoles) and putting them in a jar of water. RICHARD ALLEN SCOTT THROUGH THE YEARS The Gordon Hill train station, looking shabby now, was just around the corner from our Lavender Gardens house, at the top of the Gordon Hill and Lavender Hill intersection. There used to be a news shop in the station (where the awning is now), and Christine and I used to take our six-pence allowance and buy ‘good stuff’ there. I especially remember Palm Toffee, a toffee strip with a banana or strawberry flavour strip through the centre, and orange popsicles that tasted like real orange juice – an equivalent today would be Del Monte Real Fruit popsicles. My mother also reminded me that I threw a stone and broke the window of that shop...that they had to replace. Probably cost me a couple of weeks of allowances!
