Education <strong>and</strong> Training<br />

The Education <strong>and</strong> Training program is designed to prepare<br />

students to meet the dem<strong>and</strong>s of an increasingly competitive <strong>and</strong><br />

intellectually challenging future through educational <strong>and</strong> personal<br />

growth, practical skills development, academic courses <strong>and</strong> career<br />

preparation.The program is composed of educational classes with<br />

technical labs for h<strong>and</strong>s-on learning <strong>and</strong> allows students to gain<br />

specialized training in one of the four developed educational areas<br />

of emphasis listed below: Bilingual Education, Early Childhood<br />

Education, Special Education, or General Education (emphasis in<br />

Reading <strong>and</strong> Writing). <strong>Student</strong>s will require two courses from the<br />

correspondent Area of Emphasis as listed below. The students will<br />

create <strong>and</strong> develop instructional materials ready to be used in<br />

the school setting utilizing a variety of state-of-the-art media <strong>and</strong><br />

technical resources. For quicker entry into the industry, a certificate<br />

is also available. It requires that the student take one course from<br />

their corresponding area of emphasis.<br />

Education <strong>and</strong> Training is 100% online. <strong>Student</strong>s will be required to<br />

take the <strong>Student</strong> Online Learning Orientation course (SOLO 100).<br />

First-Year Seminar Requirement<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are required to enroll in the First-Year Seminar course,<br />

TSTC 1101, in their first semester attending TSTC unless they<br />

have completed more than 24 credit hours. Please see detailed<br />

information regarding the course <strong>and</strong> exemptions in the Advising<br />

section under First-Year Seminar course.<br />
