theoretical perspectives to major social problems in contemporary<br />
society such as inequality, crime <strong>and</strong> violence, substance abuse,<br />

SOCI 2319 (3-0-3) This course studies minority-majority group<br />
relations, addressing their historical, cultural, social, economic, <strong>and</strong><br />
institutional development in the United States. Both sociological<br />
<strong>and</strong> social psychological levels of analysis will be employed to<br />
discuss issues including experiences of minority groups within the<br />
context of their cultural heritage <strong>and</strong> tradition, as well as that of<br />
the dominant culture. Core concepts to be examined include (but<br />
are not limited to) social inequality, dominance/subordination,<br />
prejudice, <strong>and</strong> discrimination. Particular minority groups discussed<br />
may include those based on poverty, race/ethnicity, gender, sexual<br />
orientation, age, disability, or religion.<br />

SPAN 1311 (3-0-3) Basic Spanish language skills in listening,<br />

at the high beginner to low intermediate level. Prerequisite: SPAN<br />

SPCH 1311 (3-0-3) Introduces basic human communication<br />
principles <strong>and</strong> theories embedded in a variety of contexts including<br />
interpersonal, small group, <strong>and</strong> public speaking.<br />
SPCH 1315 (3-0-3) Application of communication theory <strong>and</strong><br />
practice to the public speaking context, with emphasis on audience<br />
analysis, speaker delivery, ethics of communication, cultural<br />
diversity, <strong>and</strong> speech organizational techniques to develop students'<br />
speaking abilities, as well as ability to effectively evaluate oral<br />
presentations.<br />
SPCH 1318 (3-0-3) Application of communication theory to<br />
interpersonal relationship development, maintenance, <strong>and</strong><br />
termination in relationship contexts including friendships,<br />
romantic partners, families, <strong>and</strong> relationships with co-workers <strong>and</strong><br />
supervisors.<br />
SPCH 1321 (3-0-3) Study <strong>and</strong> application of communication within<br />
the business <strong>and</strong> professional context. Special emphasis will be<br />
given to communication competencies in presentations, dyads,<br />
teams <strong>and</strong> technologically mediated formats.<br />
TECA<br />
TECA 1318 (3-2-3) A study of the factors that impact the well- being<br />
of the young child including healthy behavior, food, nutrition,<br />
fitness, <strong>and</strong> safety practices. Focuses on local <strong>and</strong> national st<strong>and</strong>ards<br />
<strong>and</strong> legal implications of relevant policies <strong>and</strong> regulations. Course<br />
content must be aligned as applicable with State Board for Educator<br />
Certification Pedagogy <strong>and</strong> Professional Responsibilities st<strong>and</strong>ards<br />
<strong>and</strong> coincide with the National Assessment of Educational Progress<br />
position statement related to developmentally appropriate practices<br />
for children from birth to age eight. Requires students to participate<br />
in field experiences with children from infancy through age 12 in<br />
a variety of settings with varied <strong>and</strong> diverse populations. Course<br />
includes a minimum of 16 hours of field experiences.<br />
TECA 1354 (3-0-3) A study of the physical, emotional, social,<br />
language, <strong>and</strong> cognitive factors impacting growth <strong>and</strong> development<br />
of children through adolescence.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s completing this lab with a C or better have completed their<br />
TSI requirements for math. Prerequisite: NCBM 0010 (Corequisite)<br />
DMTH 0100 (3-1-3) This course covers introductory algebra topics.<br />
DMTH 0200 (3-1-3) A study of relations <strong>and</strong> functions, inequalities,<br />
algebraic expressions <strong>and</strong> equations (absolute value, polynomial,<br />
radical, rational), with a special emphasis on linear <strong>and</strong> quadratic<br />
expressions <strong>and</strong> equations. <strong>Student</strong>s completing this course with<br />
a C or better have completed their TSI requirements for math.<br />
