Phlebotomy Technician
The Phlebotomy course prepares the student in the various
blood collection methods, using proper techniques and universal
precautions. Recommended by NCCLS, students will be
trained on vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin
puncture blood-culture and specimen collection. Students will
learn medical terminology, related anatomy, physiology and
utilization of laboratory equipment High emphasis is placed on
professionalism, ethics, proper patient identification, labeling of
specimens, quality specimen handling and processing. Successful
completion of the course will prepare students to challenge the
ASCP National Registry Exam.
Employment of phlebotomist is projected to grow 25 percent by
2026, much faster than the average for all occupation. Hospitals,
diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations
will need phlebotomist to perform blood work.
