Phlebotomy Technician<br />

The Phlebotomy course prepares the student in the various<br />

blood collection methods, using proper techniques <strong>and</strong> universal<br />

precautions. Recommended by NCCLS, students will be<br />

trained on vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin<br />

puncture blood-culture <strong>and</strong> specimen collection. <strong>Student</strong>s will<br />

learn medical terminology, related anatomy, physiology <strong>and</strong><br />

utilization of laboratory equipment High emphasis is placed on<br />

professionalism, ethics, proper patient identification, labeling of<br />

specimens, quality specimen h<strong>and</strong>ling <strong>and</strong> processing. Successful<br />

completion of the course will prepare students to challenge the<br />

ASCP National Registry Exam.<br />

Employment of phlebotomist is projected to grow 25 percent by<br />

2026, much faster than the average for all occupation. Hospitals,<br />

diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, <strong>and</strong> other locations<br />

will need phlebotomist to perform blood work.<br />
