Technology<br />

The Occupational Safety <strong>and</strong> Environmental Compliance<br />

Technology (OSE) offers in-depth study of Occupational Safety<br />

<strong>and</strong> Health Administration regulations, Environmental Protection<br />

Agency regulations, <strong>and</strong> other pertinent federal, state <strong>and</strong> local<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ards. Safety <strong>and</strong> environmental compliance professionals<br />

are responsible for interpreting <strong>and</strong> implementing regulations,<br />

policies <strong>and</strong> procedures, as well as enforcing government safety<br />

<strong>and</strong> environmental m<strong>and</strong>ates. Compliance professionals use the<br />

knowledge gained through the OSE program to develop, improve<br />

<strong>and</strong> manage a company’s safety <strong>and</strong> environmental system to<br />

prevent injuries, reduce accidents <strong>and</strong> protect the environment<br />

while minimizing the impact to economic progress.<br />

The Occupational Safety <strong>and</strong> Environmental Compliance Technology<br />

curriculum includes instruction on hazardous waste operations;<br />

compliance with regulatory agencies, including submitting<br />

regulatory reports <strong>and</strong> documents; conducting safety training; <strong>and</strong><br />

performing inspections <strong>and</strong> compliance audits. <strong>Student</strong>s also learn<br />

how to develop OSHA- <strong>and</strong> EPA-related programs such as hazard<br />

communication, permit-required confined space entry, respiratory<br />

protection, lockout/tagout, environmental sampling plans,<br />

stormwater pollution prevention plans, phase I site assessments,<br />

<strong>and</strong> emergency response plans. <strong>Student</strong>s will learn to anticipate,<br />

recognize, evaluate <strong>and</strong> control industrial health hazards to help<br />

build <strong>and</strong> maintain a safe work culture <strong>and</strong> protect the environment.<br />

Occupational Safety Compliance Technology is available at the<br />

Breckenridge, Fort Bend County <strong>and</strong> Waco campuses.<br />

First-Year Seminar Requirement<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are required to enroll in the First-Year Seminar course,<br />

TSTC 1102, in their first semester attending TSTC unless they<br />

have completed more than 24 credit hours. Please see detailed<br />

information regarding the course <strong>and</strong> exemptions in the Advising<br />
