Additional Degrees <strong>and</strong> Certificates<br />
Credit hours may be applied toward more than one<br />
degree <strong>and</strong>/or certificate, as long as those hours meet<br />
requirements of those credentials.<br />
Repeat Courses<br />
It is the policy of Texas State Technical College to allow<br />
students to repeat a course only when the initial grade<br />
earned was below a grade of "A."<br />
When a student repeats a course in which the grade<br />
earned was below an "A" the first grade earned will not be<br />
calculated into the cumulative grade point average. The<br />
last grade issued (regardless of whether higher or lower<br />
than the first grade) will be calculated into the cumulative<br />
grade point average. See SOS ES 4.15 - Repeat Courses<br />

Graduation <strong>and</strong> Commencement<br />
Graduation Requirements<br />
Within five years of initial enrollment in credit courses<br />
at Texas State Technical College, a student may graduate<br />
with a degree or certificate according to the catalog<br />
requirements in effect at the time of first enrollment<br />
at Texas State Technical College provided the degree,<br />
certificate, the program <strong>and</strong> requisite courses are still<br />
being offered.<br />
If a student fails to complete within five years all<br />
requirements of the catalog in effect at the time of initial<br />
enrollment, the student will be required to graduate under<br />
a catalog not older than five years.<br />
Exception to this requirement may be approved in<br />
extenuating circumstances by the campus academic<br />
officer.<br />
Graduation Procedures<br />
The Registrar or designee will certify that the student has<br />
met graduation criteria <strong>and</strong> requirements.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s are notified of their eligibility for graduation<br />
when they achieve the following requirements for the<br />
applicable degree or certificate.<br />
1. All required course work is satisfactorily completed.<br />
2. At least 25 percent of the total required credit hours<br />
for the program earned at TSTC.<br />
3. The student’s cumulative grade point average is 2.0 or<br />
higher.<br />
4. Grading requirements:<br />
a. Course taught in traditional format: The student’s<br />
grades in all major courses are C or better.<br />
Courses with a grade of "Pass" may be counted in<br />
satisfaction of degree requirements. This minimum<br />
grade requirement may vary for some TSTC healthrelated<br />
programs.<br />
b. Course taught in PBE format: The student's grades in<br />
all major courses are B or better.<br />
Note: <strong>Student</strong>s who have transcripted courses from<br />
a traditional program <strong>and</strong> move into a PBE course<br />
will receive credit for their previous transcripted<br />
course, if applicable, as determined by the program<br />
administrator.<br />
5. All transfer credits accepted by TSTC <strong>and</strong> applied to<br />
the degree or certificate have been credited according<br />
to approved procedures for evaluation <strong>and</strong> award of<br />
credit.<br />
Note: All transfer credits are evaluated by the Registrar<br />
Processing Center using the Texas Common Course<br />
Numbering System (TCCNS) Transfer Guide for courses<br />
offered at state institutions. Courses that are not<br />
listed in the TCNNS, that are from an out-of-state<br />
institution, or that are from a foreign institution shall<br />
be forwarded to the appropriate department/subjectmatter<br />
experts for further review <strong>and</strong> approval.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s shall be responsible for providing the<br />
necessary documentation about the transfer course(s).<br />
In the case of a transfer credit dispute or appeal, The<br />
Senior Vice President of <strong>Student</strong> Learning (SVPSL)<br />
or designee who oversees the department in which<br />
the course is taught shall have final authority for<br />
awarding transfer credit. See SOS ES 3.12 Transfer <strong>and</strong><br />
Substitution of Credit for additional information.<br />
6. The student has no pending disciplinary issues as<br />
defined in the TSTC <strong>Catalog</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>H<strong>and</strong>book</strong>.<br />
Note: Settlement of all financial obligations to TSTC must<br />
be made prior to graduation. If any business is pending<br />
with TSTC by commencement, TSTC withholds the official<br />
TSTC transcript until clearance approval.<br />
Commencement Ceremonies<br />
C<strong>and</strong>idates for graduation are encouraged to participate<br />
in commencement ceremonies held at the end of each<br />
semester. Participation is voluntary; however, only those<br />
students who participate in the commencement ceremony<br />
receive diploma covers, as well as honor cords <strong>and</strong><br />
medals if eligible. <strong>Student</strong>s not planning to attend the<br />
commencement ceremony may pick up their diplomas at<br />
