Electrocardiography Technician<br />

(EKG)<br />

The Electrocardiogram (EKG) program prepares the student in<br />

administering the 12 Lead EKG on patients. The course teaches the<br />

fundamentals of cardiovascular anatomy <strong>and</strong> physiology. <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

will learn basic electrocardiography procedures, interpretation of<br />

basic dysrhythmias, <strong>and</strong> appropriate treatment modalities. EKG’s are<br />

critical in helping determine a patient’s heart health. EKGs check the<br />

electrical activity of the heart to access heart rhythm, rate, strength<br />

<strong>and</strong> timing <strong>and</strong> pointing to signs of heart disease. An EKG is one<br />

of the first assessments provided after a heart attack <strong>and</strong> helping<br />

prescribe treatment.<br />
