The Fund Convention has so far been ratified by 56 States. However, according to the information available to the IOPC Fund Secretariat, there are reasons to expect that more States will soon join the IOPC Fund. This continuing expansion of the membership demonstrates that the international community has found the system of compensation created by the Civil Liability Convention and the Fund Convention to be a viable one, providing rapid compensation to victims of oil pollution damage. 285
