30 <strong>No</strong>vember 1990, done at London<br />

Conference on International Co-operation on Oil Pollution<br />

Preparedness and Response convened by IMO and held in<br />

London at its Headquarters from 19 to 30 <strong>No</strong>vember 1991<br />

adopted the OPRC Convention and 10 resolutions related<br />

thereto.<br />

STATUS : Sianatories: Argentina, Brazil, Cote d'Ivoire, Denmark,<br />

Ecuador, Finland, Gambia,‘ Germany, Federal Republic of,<br />

Ghana. Greece, Guinea, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Lebanon,<br />

Malta, Morocoo, Netherlands, <strong>No</strong>rway, Philippines, Poland,<br />

Senegal, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela<br />

Ratification/accevtance: Australia, Egypt, France,<br />

Nigeria, Seychelles, Sweden, United States, Nigeria<br />

ENTRY INTO FORCE: 12 months after 15 States have ratified, accepted,<br />

approved, or acceded to it<br />

DEPOSITARY: Secretary-General of IMO<br />

PURWSE: To protect the marine environment in particular from the<br />

consequences of major oil pollution incidents involving<br />

in particular ships, offshore units, sea ports and oil<br />

handling facilities<br />

OBJECTIVES:<br />

APPLICATION:<br />

To facilitate international co-operation and mutual<br />

assistance in preparing for and responding to a major oil<br />

pollution incident and to encourage states to develop and<br />

maintain an adequate capability to deal with oil<br />

pollution emergencies<br />

Preparedness and response issues related to oil pollution<br />

emergencies (petroleum in any form including crude oil,<br />

fuel oil, sludge, oil refuse and refined products) posing<br />

a threat to the marine environment, or to coastline or<br />

related interests of states. To be applied to hazardous<br />

and noxious substances as appropriate pending revision of<br />

Convention to cover such substances<br />

and Mutual Assistance assistance to parties that request assistance to<br />

deal with oil pollution incidents subject to:<br />
