Model results for the total deposition of oxidized nitrogen emanating in different European<br />

countries are shown in Table 5. It can be calculated that the HELCOM countries are<br />

responsible for about 60 % of the deposition.<br />

The best estimates of the total deposition of nitrogen was found by combining monitoring<br />

results and model calculations. The results are shown in Table 6.<br />

A reasonable estimate for the total deposition of nitrogen to the Baltic Sea in<br />

the latter half of the 1980’s thus seems to be<br />

300 f 30 kiloTonnes N/yr<br />

This amounts to at least 30 % of the total nitrogen burden of the Baltic Sea.<br />
