the Benedictine monks of Saint-Maur to adorn the refectory
of their abbey in Caen, the Abbaye -aux-Hommes,
founded by William the Conqueror.

5 Appeared in Christie’s sale in London on 2 December
2008, lot 24. There are several drawings connected to
the latter work, including studies for the infant and also
a study for the figure of the father shown leaning over
his young wife (Louvre RF 38727 and 38728). This last
sheet belonged to Girodet who owned at least three
drawings by Lépicié.

Staechelin à Bâle, à la fondation Beyeler, dans cette
même ville. En 1988, il est acquis par un collectionneur
privé puis mis en vente chez Sotheby’s à New York le
13 mai 1992 et chez Christie’s à Londres le 4 février
2008, lot 70. Il fut également exposé à Maastricht
par Artémis Fine art/CG Boerner en 2003 (publicité
Burlington magazine, 2003).
