du dernier des élèves de Raphaël, Perino del Vaga,
s’apprêtait à se présenter <strong>sur</strong> la scène artistique capitoline
comme le nouveau champion de l’école
romaine.

Possessing the sharply defined, rapidly drawn crisp
strokes and decorative sinuous contours typical
of Zuccaro’s most fascinating drawings, in which
the serpentine lines of the pen run along the paper
like a stream of consciousness, as if lambasting the
page, the present sheet represents a testament to the
unrelenting vitality, exuberance and creativity which
embodies the drawings of the young Taddeo who,
by the early 1550’s following the death of Perino del
Vaga, the last of Raphael’s pupils, was preparing to
launch himself on the Capitoline art scene as the
new champion of the Roman School.
