TOILET SETS<br />

All the pieces are of copper alloy (Fig 67; 1941-1945).<br />

1942 SF BKC 5715(C), V1038. Demolition debris. Period 4. Crushed.<br />

1) Nail-cleaner. Type 2a, with leaf-shaped blade. Length 47.5 mm.<br />

2) Tweezers, part of one blade is missing. Length 58.0 mm. Slightly<br />

flared blades, maximum width 8.0 mm. 3) Spoon with <strong>small</strong> round cupped<br />

scoop. Length 52.0 mm, diameter of scoop 5.0 mm. <strong>The</strong> set is suspended<br />

from a simple ring and dates to the mid to late 1st century, or possibly<br />

the early 2nd century.<br />

1944 SF BUC 484(C), C210 G247. Grave fill. Period 2. In fragments. 1)<br />

Nail-cleaner. Type 4. Length approximately 44.0 mm. 2) Spoon with<br />

<strong>small</strong> round flat scoop. Length 45.5 mm, diameter of scoop 5.0 mm. <strong>The</strong><br />

top of each piece is curled over to form a simple suspension loop. A<br />

fragment of an iron suspension ring remains in the loop of the<br />

nail-cleaner. Probably late 3rd- to 4th-century in date.<br />
