Armour<br />

Belt and apron fittings of copper alloy (Fig 151; 4204-4220)<br />

4206 SF LWC 3204(C)* J941. Make-up. Period 3. A fragment of a rosette stud<br />

with seemingly plain surface. as Fig 151. 4205. Diameter 20.0 mm. Square<br />

section shaft. clenched. length 8.5 mm.<br />

4216 SF BKC 2907. J7 Ll. Site clearance. A barred buckle tongue. This could<br />

belong to either a 1st- or 4th-centry buckle. as the barred tongue recurs<br />

on some late buckles of Hawkes and Dunning Type 2a (Hawkes and Dunning<br />

1962. fig 17.e.k. fig 18.a), Length 28.0 mm.<br />

4217 SF BKC 3178. J115 F25. Large pit. Periods 3-6? A short waisted hinged<br />

belt-plate with two back projections for attachment as Fig 151. 4215.<br />

Also as 4215 this piece may be later in date than Ist-century. Length<br />

19.5 mm. width at the hinge end 16.0 mm.<br />

4220 X131(2)(C), Stray find. probably from the Sheepen area. A large barred<br />

buckle tongue with transverse mouldings at the hinge end. Length 36.5 mm.<br />

Copper-alloy fittings from laminated body armour (Fig 152; 4221-4226)<br />

4224 SF BKC 5758(C), V701. Unstratified. Spoil-heap. <strong>The</strong> plate of a girdle-<br />

plate tie hook. Both rivets are missing. Length 35.5 mm. maximum width<br />

12.5 mm.
