Summary
In South Sulawesi mangom production is at rank two after banana. In 2008, it was shown that
the percentage of production was : banana (42.40%), mangoes (20.70%), papaya (5,32%), jack fruit
(4,73%) and citrus siam (4.67%). The centre of production of mangoes are at Takalar and Jeneponto. Up
to now mangoes are still are be consumed as fresh fruit so the profit gain are small particularly during
the main season since the price of mango are fallen. In the market. One of the solutions is by
diversification the processed mangoes. The aim of the research is to diffuse 7 of the processing
techniques by ICAPRD to the two Gapoktans in South Sulawesi as an embryo oh the industry which can
increase the added value of the product 50%. The steps of the activities are: (1) to draw the profile of
mango centre of production, (2) To analyse the SCM for choosing the Gapoktan, (3) Training of the
techniques to the Gapoktans, (3) Selection of the techniques by and the scale, (4) To apply the SOP of
mango processing, (5) Production trial (6) consumer preferences, (7) Improvement of the techniques,
(8), promotion for the products. The methods of analysis were SWOT, SCM and analyses of the diffusion
acceleration. The usage of this research is to increase the capability, expertise and farmer income by
doing the diversification of the product.
The research results showed that (1), Kabupaten Jeneponto as a mango centre of production is
prospective is also be a centre of mango processing by looking at production potential, development
potential, and there is not any similar product as competitor of processed mangoes; (2) Results of SWOT
analyses to the Mallasoro Gapoktan, kecamatan Bangkala indicate the position of S and a, so strategic
required to be applied is by using the strength maximally to gain the the maximum opportunity, (3) The
chian of the supply in Kabupaten Jeneponto in the product flow, money flow and information flow is
very short and simple. For the mango chain, the farmer is the main suppliers, trader, it is ended at in the
kabupaten Vendor, street vendor, and provincial vendor. For money flow, trader has the main control
since they bought the mango of all the harvest. At the information flow trader has the main access
about the time of harvest, price, at farm gate, market or at the retail trader.
The workshop has been done to get the understanding among the local authorities such as
Agriculture Authoriities, farmer, extension trainer, researchers, other local authorities so that there
would be some supports for the embryo of processors. The SOP training on the mango processing and
the processing techniques have been done, the embryo has been born and the added value of the
product is more than 50%. The two Gapoktan Bungung Pandang from Malassoro and Paranuanta from
Bontoranu through they KWT will started the production during the next season since there was an
investor started the to order. For the 6 kinds of product tested to the consumers, it is proven that
consumers like the products.
Analyses for the acceleration of the diffusion showed that the role and function of the
management is very important to accelerate the diffusion target so there will be a unit commercial
which can do production sustainably. Risk analyses showed that every actors in the chain have different
risk. That's why it is required to have serious efforts to minimize the risk, so that every actors have
balanced profit margin, this would induce the sustainable production.
