PROGETTI
PROJECTS
di/by Roberto Marcatti
L’uomo è quello
che mangia...
You are what you
eat...
Tutto questo anche in funzione delle
norme comunitarie che ci impongono di
produrre di meno, trascurando in alcuni
casi anche dei prodotti PAT (prodotto
agro alimentare tradizionale), vere eccellenze
geneticamente.
all’oliva da raccogliere.
prima qualità mentre spesso importiamo materia prima
tedesco Ludwig Feuerbach…
ma se penso
agli ultimi scandali
alimentari dovuti alla
filiera lunga sugli alimenti
e sui costi che
si vanno ad aggiungere
sul prodotto lavorato,
mi viene veramente
da pensare!
Stated the german
philosopher Ludwig
Feuerbach… but when
recent food scandals
come to mind, due
to the long processing
chain, and all the
costs that are added
to the final product, it
really makes me stop
and think!
A situation that is also due to Community standards which
insist we produce less, in some cases even neglecting PAT
products (i.e. traditional agro-alimentary products), true excellences
of our territory, in favour of commercial agreements
and products having less value, “pumped” full of ever more
sophisticated additives, increasingly more harmful to our organism,
or even involving genetically modified food products.
On my last trip to Puglia I was shocked by the data I was
given by farmers and tradesmen: for 1 quintal of olives
harvested manually from a tree they are paid a mere 8 euro,
which is not even enough to pay for the work that has to be
done in the fields before reaching the moment when the olives
have to be harvested. And the result? Farmers leave their
olives on the trees and harvest only what is strictly necessary
for their personal and family use. This is just one small example
in Italy, a country that has always enjoyed top quality
farm products, whereas we are now often importing raw materials
of poor quality in order to comply with agreements we
have entered into as members of the European Community.
Relative to this situation, but also in the light of many other
considerations, Veronica Sorace asked me to act as director
for her thesis, discussed at the Faculty of Design in the Polytechnic
of Milan, a thesis which focused on a possible Farmer
Market project, to be located, in more specific terms, at a Social
Cooperative in the
Province of Bergamo,
but which at the same
time could be extended
and exported to all
areas and locations
where, due to specifications
and needs, people
