isc 8 Er und Sie Op 78 No 2<br />
8X<br />
ack bu 25 August to 4 September 1849; sung by Dorothea Röschmann, Ian Bostridge<br />
Blum<strong>en</strong> prang<strong>en</strong> ohne Zahl,<br />
Blick’ ich nur auf Eine.<br />
Ach!
Dort g<strong>en</strong> Ab<strong>en</strong>d blickt Er mild<br />

isc 8 Ich d<strong>en</strong>ke dein Op 78 No 3<br />
ack cl 25 August to 4 September 1849; sung by Dorothea Röschmann, Ian Bostridge<br />
In Quel<strong>le</strong>n malt.<br />
JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE (1749–1832)<br />
He If I gaze into the quiet val<strong>le</strong>y<br />
Where b<strong>en</strong>eath the sun<br />
Flowers g<strong>le</strong>am without number,<br />
I see but one alone.<br />
Ah! Her blue eyes now<br />
Are also gazing at the meadows;<br />
I can see them<br />
In the dew-dr<strong>en</strong>ched forget-me-nots.<br />
She If I <strong>le</strong>an out of my litt<strong>le</strong> window<br />
At the hour wh<strong>en</strong> stars are shining,<br />
Though all of them be fairer,<br />
I see but one alone;<br />
There at dusk he gazes<br />
G<strong>en</strong>tly up to heav<strong>en</strong>,<br />
For a dear image<br />
Is mirrored there.<br />

8X<br />
I think of you, wh<strong>en</strong> the shimmering sun<br />
G<strong>le</strong>ams from the sea;<br />
I think of you, wh<strong>en</strong> the glittering moon<br />
Is mirrored in streams.<br />
I see you, wh<strong>en</strong> on the distant path<br />
Dust rises;<br />
In deep night, wh<strong>en</strong> on the narrow bridge<br />
The travel<strong>le</strong>r tremb<strong>le</strong>s.<br />
I hear you where, with muff<strong>le</strong>d roar<br />
The wave rears up.<br />
In the si<strong>le</strong>nt wood I oft<strong>en</strong> heark<strong>en</strong><br />
Wh<strong>en</strong> all is si<strong>le</strong>nt.<br />
I am with you, however far away you be,<br />
You are by my side!<br />
The sun sets, soon the stars will shine for me.<br />
Ah! were you but here!<br />
