It stands out that some breeds are very region-specific whereas
some breeds have their area of distribution in 2 or more countries.
The Tyrolese Mountain, for example, is found in Austria and
South Tyrol (Italy). The Brown Mountain is found in Germany and
Austria, in Switzerland as Engadine Red and in South Tyrol together
with the black type as Black-brown Mountain. This breed is not to be
confounded with the Swiss Black-Brown Mountain that has been well
established in Austria as Jura. The remaining population of Alpine
Steinschaf is rebuilt in close cooperation with breeders of similar stock
in Upper Bavaria, Germany, and Salzburg, Austria. The Slovenian
Bovsca ovca is also kept in Italy as Plezzana and in conservation herds
in Austria and Germany as Krainer Steinschaf. The Carinthian
presentation begins with the mainly German-speaking Alpine region
(Germany, Austria, Switzerland), followed by France, Italy and
Slovenia. On the right side, the text is in German, on the left side in
The brochure gives an overview about the breeds in the
The map of distribution shall give an overview on the present
