/ Digital Testbed Air Cargo – DTAC
/ In air cargo, digitalisation, automation and the improvement
of data interfaces represent important challenges for economically,
ecologically and socially sustainable development. With
the “Digital Testbed Air Cargo” (DTAC), a neutral Germanywide
research framework was created in 2021, which, under
the leadership of Fraunhofer IML and the Frankfurt University
of Applied Sciences, bundles air cargo-specific research
activities and identifies and makes available digitalisation
approaches in the various process stages. The aim of the DTAC
is to increase the efficiency and performance of the air freight
transport chain through better networking of all the players
involved and the digitalisation of processes. The Federal Ministry
of Digital Affairs and Transport is providing around 7 million
euros for the implementation.
A total of six sub-projects are being created, in each of which
independent demonstrators are being developed: Data Hub
& Digital Avatar, Smart Pouch and IoT, Predictive Analytics,
Digital Site Logistics, Autonomous Outdoor Cargo Transport
and Autonomous Air Cargo Warehouse Handling.
The projects are carried out with partners from science and
industry. This makes it possible to take into account perspectives
and requirements for further developments from the entire
industry.
The content of the three-year project includes the topics
“Standardised data exchange between the stakeholders of
the air freight transport chain”, “Automation of scheduling,
handling and transport” and “Machine-learning algorithms for
AI-supported optimisation of forecasts”.
