/ Logistics Concept for Operation and

Case Cart Management

/ München Klinik gGmbH is currently implementing one of

the biggest construction programs in the German healthcare

system. At the Bogenhausen site, it is constructing – among

other things – an operating center with 17 operating rooms,

an adjoining central steril service departments and a case cart

store (where the equipment for operations is made available).

Scientists from Fraunhofer IML came up with a logistics concept

for managing operations and case cart management at

the new operating center.

They started by determining the capacity requirements at

the future operating center while also considering how the

performance might develop in the context of the relocations.

The capacity requirements check was used to identify the

capacity utilization limits and the scope for expansion within

the defined framework of spatial and functional requirements.

It became clear that the capacity expansions had already been

factored into the previous planning and that the spatial requirements

for implementing the planned concepts had been

met.

As part of the project, the scientists also defined that the

operations management system must be prepared for the new

basic parameters prevailing in the operating center from a

process, organizational and digital perspective. Among other

things, this meant that the new case cart concept has to be

implemented in combination with a concept for the instrument

preparation room.
