/ “Open Logistics Foundation“ Launched
/ The companies Dachser, DB Schenker, duisport and Rhenus
established the “Open Logistics Foundation“ on October
22, 2021. The goal of the non-profit foundation is to build a
European open-source community, thereby driving the digitalization
of logistics and supply chain management on an open
source basis and standardizing logistical processes by establishing
de facto standards. The initiative is unique in the logistics
industry.
The Foundation’s core work is establishing and operating the
“Open Logistics Repository“. The platform will make compatible
software, hardware, interfaces, reference implementations
and components available as open source under a free license.
Interested companies can use these resources to expand their
own platforms or accelerate the launch of new products and
business models, for example.
Modifying internal structures is beneficial in many ways:
Companies that use open source resources tend to be more
productive, have lower costs and avoid committing to proprietary
software.
Another of the Foundation’s tasks is to select collaborative
projects, the developments of which will be included in the
Repository. The idea for the Open Logistics Foundation arose
from the Fraunhofer IML Silicon Economy research projects.
The software and hardware created in the projects will also be
available in the Open Logistics Repository.
