PRODUCT DESCRIPTION<br />

Originally a Westinghouse Product<br />

The SJ Vacuum Contactor was designed<br />

and engineered specifically for use in<br />

AMPGARD starters. The contactor is a<br />

low-chop design that permits application<br />

matching of the starter to the motor for<br />

2200V - 7200V and ratings of 400A and<br />

800A. The 400A contactor is available in<br />

both slide-out and roll-out configurations.<br />

The 800A contactor is available in the rollout<br />

design only. The SJ AMPGARD is a<br />

horsepower specific starter design that<br />

uses the component-to-component <strong>circuit</strong>ry<br />

concept. The full-voltage 400A rating<br />

in a NEMA 1 enclosure is 36 inches<br />

wide x 30 inches deep x 90 inches high.<br />

These 400A starters are mounted one or<br />

two high per structure. The 800A rating in<br />

an enclosure is 40 inches wide x 30 inches<br />

Chronology<br />

The SJ vacuum design AMPGARD starter<br />

was introduced in 1982 with the 400A<br />

rating. The 800A rating followed in 1987.<br />

With the introduction of the vacuum<br />

contactor, the air break starter has been<br />

gradually phased out and is rarely specified<br />

in an assembly. The starters are built<br />

in Asheville, NC.<br />

IQ Floor Mounted Enclosure<br />

For mounting IQ family products. Includes<br />

standard AMPGARD structure construction<br />

to be used as a line-up extension. Each<br />

12-inch wide x 90-inch high x 30-inch deep<br />

section comes with two doors, each with a<br />

works-in-a-drawer drawout panel. Each<br />

door has three standard IQ cutouts with<br />

device panels. Supplied with or without IQ<br />
