The following may serve as a brief overview of the background to
the trial:
In the years 1991/1992, I prepared, at the request of a defense attorney,
an expert report entitled Gutachten über die Bildung und Nachweisbarkeit
von Cyanidverbindungen in den “Gaskammern” von Auschwitz
(Expert Report on the Formation and Detectability of Cyanide
Compounds in the “Gas Chamber” of Auschwitz). 49 I prepared this expert
report as a private individual, parallel to – but independent of – my
simultaneous research of a different nature in theoretical crystallography
in pursuit of my PhD degree at the Max Planck Institute for Solid
State Research in Stuttgart. The purpose of the expert report was to
remedy the omissions and inadequacies of the so-called Leuchter Report.

rejected by each of these courts because, according to federal
German case law, the events that transpired at Auschwitz Camp during
