• Moni<strong>to</strong>r sexual orientation, but first engage <strong>in</strong> dialogue with<br />
lesbians and gay men who work <strong>in</strong> film. The size and<br />
demographics of the gay film audience and the film preferences<br />
of differ<strong>in</strong>g perspectives with<strong>in</strong> the wide-rang<strong>in</strong>g views of gay<br />
and disabled audiences need <strong>to</strong> be prioritised <strong>in</strong> studies.<br />
• A qualitative study of disabled employees is useful <strong>in</strong><br />
understand<strong>in</strong>g their experiences of the cultures of the sec<strong>to</strong>r.<br />
There is a need <strong>to</strong> engage <strong>in</strong> dialogue with disabled people.<br />
• More detailed <strong>in</strong>formation about UK national/regional film<br />
audiences is needed.<br />
• Explore whether the current design, programm<strong>in</strong>g and other<br />
characteristics of c<strong>in</strong>emas best meet diverse audience needs at<br />
the present time.<br />
• More <strong>in</strong>formation is needed on the access of diverse audiences<br />
<strong>to</strong> film on the Internet, mobile platforms and video on demand.<br />
• Update the studies <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> representation on film of women, types<br />
of mascul<strong>in</strong>ity, sexual orientation broadly, people from m<strong>in</strong>ority<br />
ethnic groups, people from different social classes and<br />
occupational groups, people from different nations/regions of<br />
the UK and people from different religious groups.<br />
• Promote the <strong>in</strong>volvement of people from diverse groups <strong>in</strong> script<br />
writ<strong>in</strong>g, film development, direct<strong>in</strong>g and production decision-<br />
mak<strong>in</strong>g. Ensure that this happens <strong>in</strong> a non-ghet<strong>to</strong>ised way.<br />
• In response <strong>to</strong> the plateau <strong>in</strong> c<strong>in</strong>ema attendance, certa<strong>in</strong><br />
audiences who are under-served could be specifically targeted.<br />
