3.2.3 Marital status and dependents<br />

27% of respondents <strong>in</strong> the 2006 feature film production survey<br />

reported they had at least one dependent child, a slight drop from<br />

2002 (Skillset and UK <strong>Film</strong> Council - Project Update 20<strong>07</strong>). As <strong>in</strong><br />

2002 the proportion of men liv<strong>in</strong>g with dependent children was<br />

considerably greater than the proportion of women (36% compared <strong>to</strong><br />

14%) (Skillset and UK <strong>Film</strong> Council - Project Update 20<strong>07</strong>).<br />

The Head of the Birds Eye Women’s <strong>Film</strong> Festival argues the under-<br />

representation is related <strong>to</strong> the clash between rais<strong>in</strong>g children and the<br />

culture of film, entail<strong>in</strong>g long hours, be<strong>in</strong>g on location a great deal,<br />
