There is an Equalities Charter tracker on progress, a leadership on<br />
diversity <strong>in</strong>novation fund and diversity consultancy support for<br />
organisations. These are important <strong>in</strong>itiatives, but they require<br />
excellent follow through and implementation, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g good<br />
moni<strong>to</strong>r<strong>in</strong>g, a sett<strong>in</strong>g of clear standards, and <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g awareness<br />
among decision makers.<br />
2.8 Summary<br />
• There is a healthy market for film but the film sec<strong>to</strong>r is highly<br />
competitive, dom<strong>in</strong>ated by micro-bus<strong>in</strong>esses, and with high<br />
unemployment levels. Demand <strong>to</strong> work <strong>in</strong> the sec<strong>to</strong>r outweighs<br />
the supply of jobs and certa<strong>in</strong> groups <strong>–</strong> women, m<strong>in</strong>ority ethnic<br />
people and disabled workers, f<strong>in</strong>d it difficult <strong>to</strong> break <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> the<br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry. The <strong>in</strong>dustry tends <strong>to</strong> be dom<strong>in</strong>ated by white, middle-<br />
aged men.<br />
• C<strong>in</strong>ema audiences have a widen<strong>in</strong>g choice of films but some<br />
groups are under-represented <strong>in</strong> the audience.<br />
