CANOPY: See "Awning".<br />

CARNIVAL: See "Outdoor Event, Temporary".<br />

CARPORT: A building used solely for the storage <strong>of</strong> motor vehicles and containing no<br />

enclosing walls, screens, lattice or other material other than the wall or walls <strong>of</strong> the building to<br />

which it attaches. The area <strong>of</strong> supporting columns or wall sections <strong>of</strong> anyone side other than the<br />

wall or walls <strong>of</strong> the building to which it attaches or other than a storage room shall not exceed fifty<br />

(50%) percent <strong>of</strong> that side. Screen, lattice, grillwork, or other materials which has a net <strong>of</strong>ten<br />

(10%) percent closed area may be permitted provided the maximum area <strong>of</strong> fifty (50%) percent is<br />

not exceeded.<br />

CAR WASH: An establishment that provides washing and cleaning <strong>of</strong> passenger or<br />

recreational vehicles by hand, by use <strong>of</strong> automated equipment operated by one (1) or more<br />

attendants, or by self-service facilities.<br />

CARRY-OUT FOOD SERVICE: A business whose principal purpose is the preparation and<br />

sale <strong>of</strong> food or beverages for consumption <strong>of</strong>f-site, such as delicatessens, ice cream stores and hot<br />

dog stands, but shall not include liquor stores, restaurants, and drive-through commercial<br />

establishments.<br />

CEMETERY: A parcel <strong>of</strong> land or structure dedicated to and at least a portion <strong>of</strong> which is being<br />

used for the interment <strong>of</strong> human or animal remains. A cemetery may include crematories,<br />

mausoleums, and columbaria.<br />

CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY: An <strong>of</strong>ficial authorization to occupy a structure as issued<br />

by the Building Department.<br />

CHICANE: A traffic calming technique where physical obstacles or barriers are placed in the<br />

street which require drivers to slow down and drive around them.<br />

CHURCH: See "Places <strong>of</strong> Worship".<br />

CLEANING OR PROCESSING ESTABLISHMENT: A business that primarily involves the<br />

on-site cleaning, treatment, or chemical processing <strong>of</strong> goods or materials, or the storage <strong>of</strong><br />

chemicals, used in <strong>of</strong>f-site cleaning, treatment, or processing. This includes, but is not limited to<br />

carpet cleaners, dry-cleaning plants, self-service or full-service laundries, exterminating services,<br />

and taxidermists.<br />

CLINIC OR HEALTH CARE FACILITY: A building containing an association or group <strong>of</strong><br />

physicians, dentists, clinical psychologists, and similar pr<strong>of</strong>essional health care practitioners,<br />

including allied pr<strong>of</strong>essional assistants who are assembled for the purpose <strong>of</strong> carrying on their<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essions. The health care facility may include apothecary, dental and medical laboratories,<br />

tissue labs, and/or X-ray facilities, but shall not include inpatient care or operating rooms for<br />

major surgery.<br />

CO-LOCATION: The use <strong>of</strong> a single support structure and/or site by more than one<br />

telecommunications provider.<br />

COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY: An institution providing full-time or part-time education<br />

beyond the high school level, including any lodging rooms or housing for students or faculty.<br />
