GILBERT UNIFIED LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE<br />

as approved by the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gilbert</strong> and other governmental agencies shall be permitted.<br />

<strong>Development</strong> standards, including but not limited to sign face area, height, location, etc., shall be<br />

determined in accordance with all bus shelter design requirements as specified by the <strong>Town</strong><br />

Engineer, in coordination with the governmental agencies as appropriate.<br />

3.25 Required Signs<br />

Every residential dwelling unit, visible from streets, shall be identified by a street number.<br />

Also, every non-residential building or group <strong>of</strong> buildings shall be identified by a street number, visible<br />

from adjacent streets, not to exceed three (3) square feet in area. This sign shall not be counted as a part<br />

<strong>of</strong> the total sign area permitted for said building or groups <strong>of</strong> buildings and shall not require a sign<br />

permit.<br />

3.26 Prohibited Signs<br />

All signs not expressly permitted by this Article shall be prohibited, except signs that are less than<br />

six (6) square feet in area shall be exempt from the requirements <strong>of</strong> this provision:<br />

A. The parking <strong>of</strong> a vehicle, trailer or other device marked or unmarked which is parked in such a<br />

manner that it is used as a portable sign is prohibited.<br />

B. A flashing or animated sign or signs with an intermittent or varying intensity <strong>of</strong> artificial<br />

illumination is prohibited, whether deliberate or as a consequence <strong>of</strong> a defect in the sign or the<br />

illumination source. Except for limited non-commercial copy change signs such as time, date, and<br />

temperature.<br />

C. No sign shall be allowed which advertises activities that are illegal under Federal, State, or local<br />

laws, rules, or regulations.<br />

D. No sign shall be erected, attached, or painted upon fences, rocks, or natural features.<br />

E. With the exception <strong>of</strong> bus shelter signage, as provided in Section 3.24E <strong>of</strong> this Article, no sign<br />

shall be erected, attached, or painted upon any object within the right-<strong>of</strong>-way. This shall include<br />

all street signs, telephone poles, utilities and/or fences around utilities, and/or any other object or<br />

structure <strong>of</strong> this type.<br />

F. Murals, artistic statues, architectural features such as decorative awnings, and corporate color<br />

background shall be considered signage unless approved by the Design Review Board and/ or staff<br />

as part <strong>of</strong> an approved architectural design.<br />

G. Except as permitted in Section 3.24(B)(13), portable signs are prohibited. Such signs are subject to<br />

confiscation if placed in the right-<strong>of</strong>-way or on other <strong>Town</strong> property.<br />

H. Change panel signs are prohibited except for those signs as described in Sections 3.61A and 3.71D<br />

<strong>of</strong> this Article.<br />

I. Signs projecting above a ro<strong>of</strong>line or mounted on a ro<strong>of</strong> are prohibited.<br />

J. Billboards are prohibited.<br />
