horizontal length <strong>of</strong> the building elevation on the exterior <strong>of</strong> the individual tenant's or<br />

user's suite, nor shall the vertical dimension <strong>of</strong> the sign exceed eighty percent (80%) <strong>of</strong> the<br />

vertical dimension <strong>of</strong> the sign band or wall space on which the sign is placed. No sign<br />

shall be located closer to the top <strong>of</strong> a parapet wall than one-half the vertical<br />

dimension <strong>of</strong> the largest letter or character <strong>of</strong> the sign, except as otherwise approved by<br />

the Design Review Board upon a finding that such sign placement does not visually<br />

crowd the top <strong>of</strong> the wall, or as approved by staff upon a finding that the area <strong>of</strong> the sign<br />

copy encroaching into this area does not exceed ten percent (10%) <strong>of</strong> the area <strong>of</strong> the sign.<br />

Interior directional signs shall not exceed three (3) square feet in area or three (3) feet in height,<br />

and shall have a setback <strong>of</strong> no less than twenty- five (25) feet from the right-<strong>of</strong> way.<br />

3.62 Temporary signs<br />

The following temporary signs are allowed subject to the issuance <strong>of</strong> a sign permit:<br />

A. Initial Display <strong>of</strong> Banners and Non-Rigid Signs: Non-rigid signs, banners, displays and<br />

advertising flags, shall be permitted on a one-time basis during the first year <strong>of</strong> operation<br />

<strong>of</strong> a use, for a period not to exceed ninety (90) consecutive calendar days and<br />

commencing not earlier than thirty (30) days prior to the first day <strong>of</strong> operation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

use. Such signs, banners, displays and flags shall not exceed a sign area, in the aggregate<br />

at any one time, up to thirty-two (32) square feet <strong>of</strong> sign area for occupancies <strong>of</strong> 0 to<br />

5,000 square feet; eighty (80) square feet in area, for occupancies greater than 5,000<br />

square feet up to 15,000 square feet; one hundred- and twenty (120) square feet <strong>of</strong> sign<br />

area, for occupancies greater than 15,000 up to 50,000 square feet, and a maximum <strong>of</strong><br />

one hundred-and-sixty (160) square feet <strong>of</strong> sign area, for occupancies greater than<br />

50,000 square feet. Such signs shall be located on the exterior building wall <strong>of</strong> the suite<br />

to which they are appurtenant.<br />

B. Periodic Display <strong>of</strong> Banners and Non-Rigid Signs: Non-rigid signs, banners, displays<br />

and advertising flags are permitted to be displayed for a period not to exceed thirty (30)<br />

consecutive days per calendar quarter. Such signs, banners, displays and flags shall not<br />

exceed a sign area; in the aggregate at anyone time, up to thirty-two (32) square feet <strong>of</strong><br />

sign area for occupancies <strong>of</strong> 0 to 5,000 square feet; eighty (80) square feet in area, for<br />

occupancies greater than 5,000 square feet up to 15,000 square feet; one hundred- and<br />

twenty (120) square feet <strong>of</strong> sign area, for occupancies greater than 15,000 up to 50,000<br />

square feet, and a maximum <strong>of</strong> one hundred-and-sixty (160) square feet <strong>of</strong> sign area, for<br />

occupancies greater than 50,000 square feet. Such signs shall be located on the exterior<br />

building wall <strong>of</strong> the suite to which they are appurtenant.<br />

C. Other Signs (Real Estate Signs): Undeveloped sites are allowed to display real estate<br />

Signs or construction signs up to thirty-two (32) square feet <strong>of</strong> sign area for the first ten<br />

(10) acres; eighty (80) square feet <strong>of</strong> sign for sites greater than ten (10) acres up to<br />

twenty (20) acres; and one- hundred and sixty (160) square feet <strong>of</strong> sign area for sites<br />

greater than 20 acres. The maximum height shall be twelve (12) feet from adjacent<br />

grade. Signs may be installed up to one year prior to the development <strong>of</strong> the site.<br />

D. Religious Institution Temporary Directional Signs: Temporary-directional signs for religious<br />

institutions shall be permitted, to be displayed not more than two hours before and one hour after a<br />

religious service. Not more than two such signs shall be displayed on one property at any time.<br />

Such signs shall be limited to six (6) square feet in sign area and a<br />
