GILBERT UNIFIED LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE<br />

EASEMENT: A grant by a property owner <strong>of</strong> the use <strong>of</strong> a strip <strong>of</strong> land for a specific purpose or<br />

purposes by the general public, a corporation or a certain person or persons.<br />

EQUESTRIAN TRAIL: A natural surfaced path for equestrian use designed in accordance with<br />

standards on file with the Planning Department.<br />

EQUIPMENT CABINET: A small structure used to house and protect the equipment<br />

necessary for processing telecommunications signals.<br />

FAMILY: A family is:<br />

1. An individual or two (2) or more persons related by blood, marriage, or adoption,<br />

and usual servants, living together as a single housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit<br />

or,<br />

2. A group <strong>of</strong> not more than five (5) persons, who need not be related, living together<br />

as a single housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit.<br />

FENCE: A freestanding structure <strong>of</strong> metal, masonry, composition or wood or any combination<br />

there<strong>of</strong> resting on or partially buried in the ground and rising above ground level, and used for<br />

confinement, screening or partition purposes.<br />

FENCE, LNING: A hedge <strong>of</strong> vegetation used as a screening device or a fence with vegetation<br />

growing to it or on it which at the time <strong>of</strong> maturity would prevent an "open" effect and would<br />

block the normal line <strong>of</strong> sight.<br />

FENCING, OPEN: A fence constructed <strong>of</strong> material which does not interrupt the line <strong>of</strong> sight,<br />

such as split rail, pipe or chainlink fencing and shall not include a living fence.<br />

FITNESS CLUB: See "Golf, Tennis, Swim/Fitness Club".<br />

FLOOR AREA, GROSS: The sum total <strong>of</strong> the areas <strong>of</strong> the floors <strong>of</strong> a building measured from<br />

the exterior faces <strong>of</strong> exterior walls or from the centerline <strong>of</strong> walls separating two buildings; but not<br />

including underground parking spaces, uncovered steps, exterior balconies and exterior walkways.<br />

FLOOD PLAIN: A portion <strong>of</strong> property or properties, susceptible to inundation, as defined by<br />

the Maricopa County Flood Control District.<br />

FRONT: Any public street frontage, not including alleys.<br />
